Martial Arts

Ju-Jutsu

Ju-Jutsu is a Japanese martial art that originated on the battlefields hundreds of years ago.

Here are some the types of moves and actions associated with Ju-Jutsu:

  • Throws
  • Locks
  • Chokes
  • Strangles
  • Kicks
  • Punches
  • Strikes
  • Pressure points
  • Weapons
  • Kuatsu (Japanese first aid)

It is suitable for most ages, sizes and strengths, once a reasonable level of fitness, health and flexibility is present. It’s also a great way to learn self-protection whilst also getting fit and gaining strength.

Ju-Jutsu will improve your co-ordination, balance, flexibility and speed.

The classes at Universal Gym are taught by qualified black belts, who are also trained coaches and teach in a friendly, positive manner, making learning much easier and more fun.

Kids Martial Arts

At Universal Gym, our foundation for teaching children is based around teamwork and boosting self-confidence. Through fun based exercises and games. This allows children to learn much more easily because they’re having fun and feel more relaxed.

Throughout their first years of training, children will learn about balance, co-ordination, flexibility, self-confidence, self-esteem and awareness of the students around them. Our aim is to improve all of these skills.

The techniques we teach children include kicks, punches, throws, break-falls, and Kata. In addition to the physical techniques of Ju-Jutsu, we also teach about anatomy and ‘Stranger Danger’ awareness techniques, which is a very valuable lesson that can keep children safe right through to their adult lives.

Times and Prices

NB:

Due to the large numbers of children training we have changed the location for the Ju Jutsu classes for both adults and children.
The Children’s Ju Jutsu classes will now be in the Ardee Parish Centre on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
The class times have also changed, the class for 8 year olds to 12 year olds will now be from 5pm to 6pm and the class for 5 to 7 year olds will remain the same from 6pm to 7pm. Class prices remain the same at E7.
We are changing location from next Monday the 3rd of September. Unfortunately the Irish Blood Transfusion Service are holding a Blood donation clinic there on Wednesday the 5th of September so we can’t have our classes that day but from Wednesday the 12th September the kids classes will run as above. Any kids who normally train on a Wednesday are more then welcome to train on Monday instead next week if they wish.
We think the Parish Centre will be a much better venue for the classes as we will have far more space for the kids to train.
The adults Ju Jutsu class will now be just once a week on a Monday night in the Ardee Parish Centre from 7pm to 8pm.
